When is your new plan likely to start?
Posted April 08, 2018 07:21:08 The Canadian Association of Insurance Commissioners has issued a notice of intent to enter into a new collective agreement with a major insurer, and the insurer is expected to start issuing individual policies for the first time in 2018.
As part of the agreement, the CAAIC says it will not accept new insurance policies until the insurer has issued the required amount of coverage to all of its current insureds and has received a sufficient number of claims to satisfy the CCAIC’s annual review.
That review process will likely start in the first quarter of 2019, according to CAAIB Chief Economist Andrew Hunter.
It’s expected to take several months for CAAI to begin issuing individual policy for individual insureds, although the CAAAIC has not yet set an estimate for when this process could begin.
The CAA’s notice of intention to enter a new agreement comes just over a week after CAAIA President and CEO Mark Rippon announced the launch of a new insurance agency for Ontario.
The new agency, called CAAIR, will be based in Ottawa, and will be responsible for the insurance of all its provincial members.
The new agency will be able to negotiate insurance prices with its provincial and territorial members.
The agency will also be responsible, as part of a collective agreement, for issuing insurance policies to its members, and to the CACAIC.

The Ontario Insurance Regulator has been notified of the CABIC’s announcement, and it is expected that the Ontario Insurance Association will conduct a similar review in 2018 and 2019.
