How to choose a new insurance company in Oklahoma
OKLAHOMA CITY — If you have coverage from an Oklahoma insurance company, you may have a choice of insurers.
Oklahoma’s insurance commissioner has put together a list of companies that can choose from, including companies that have been offering coverage to some of the state’s most vulnerable people.
Insurance Commissioner John Anderson said the list of the Oklahoma Insurance Agency (OIA) is a way to inform the public and help those with health insurance options.
“We know that we are not the only state where we can choose what is available and what is not available.
So this is a first step to help educate the public about what’s available and to help insure that everyone can choose the insurance that’s right for them,” said Anderson.
The list of Oklahoma’s preferred insurers includes companies that offer limited coverage and some with more than 10,000 residents.
In addition, Oklahoma also has a few more options than Oklahoma’s traditional insurance companies, including those that provide a combination of medical and financial benefits.
Some of the companies are owned by hospitals and hospitals are participating in the OIA’s Choice of Oklahoma program.
The list also includes companies with some of Oklahomas most vulnerable residents, including people who are deaf, blind or have disabilities.
The Oklahoma Health Care Cost Containment Program (OKHCCP) is an insurance program that pays insurers to help cover the costs of the uninsured, including emergency room visits and other care.
The OIA has put out a list for interested consumers, and is asking for comments until Feb. 14.
If you are interested in a new company, Anderson said you can reach out to the OSA’s office at 888-973-9123.
