‘Affordable’ insurance company seeks to lure ‘affordable’ customers
AUSTIN, Texas — Affordable insurance company Blue Cross and Blue Shield is seeking to lure “affordable” customers with its new “affinity” program.
The Blue Cross Affinity program is available only to those with federal tax credits for health insurance coverage that includes coverage for preventive services, according to the company’s website.
Affinity is a new insurance category, meaning that individuals can qualify for coverage based on their income and household size, and the company said the new program is intended to help those who don’t have health insurance.
The program is also available to people who have a pre-existing condition or a prenuptial agreement and are eligible for the ACA’s catastrophic coverage, the company wrote on its website.
Blue Cross Affiliates offer plans that cover more than 100 percent of their annual health care costs, according the company.
Blue Cross said the Affinity category will be offered by its affiliates in Austin, San Antonio, and Austin-Round Rock.
The company also announced plans to expand the Austin Affinity network in Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio.
Blue has not yet announced pricing for the Affiliacy program, but the company plans to offer the plans for a one-time fee of $150.
The Affinity fee will be added to your deductible.
Blue also has plans to launch Affinity plans in other Texas markets, including Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston-Baytown-Sugar Land, Dallas-Arlington-New Braunfels and Austin.
Blue said it is committed to providing health care coverage to its members who cannot afford insurance coverage, which will be provided in the same way that it provides health insurance for its customers.
Affordable and Affiliated Care Centers offer care to Texas residents who cannot obtain insurance coverage through a family member or other source.
Blue is also offering a free smartphone app that helps people with pre-purchase health insurance and navigates the health insurance marketplace.
Blue plans to create a community-based program to expand Affinity coverage to a larger network of more than 200 locations across Texas.
