How to get unemployment insurance in Queensland
An unemployment insurance scheme in Queensland will be closed after the state government announced the state’s unemployment rate would fall to 6.3 per cent next month.
The state unemployment rate will fall from 6.4 per cent to 6 per cent, which is the lowest it has been since the start of the Great Recession.
“I am very pleased to announce that Queensland’s unemployment insurance will now be closed,” Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said on Thursday.
“This decision is not only for the sake of the people of Queensland, but for the economy of Queensland and for Queensland’s future.”
The announcement comes after months of criticism of the scheme by politicians and the business community.
The announcement was made after the Queensland Government announced the rate would drop to 6,000 people.
“If you’re unemployed in Queensland you can get unemployment benefits in Queensland, if you’re looking for work and have the job search experience you can,” Ms Palaswczuk told reporters on Thursday morning.
“That’s a huge benefit for the unemployed.”
“The Queensland Government’s commitment to the unemployed and their families will be the foundation of our future.”
Ms Palasak said the Queensland unemployment benefits would be distributed to eligible people between 6:00pm and 8:00am every day, rather than every two weeks.
The Queensland Unemployment Benefits Scheme is administered by the Queensland Unemployment Compensation Scheme.
“Our goal is to reduce the cost of unemployment benefit for Queenslanders,” Ms Palmeraszuk said.
“The savings will be reinvested into Queensland’s economy.”
There are two benefits of the Queensland Benefits Scheme.
“The first benefit will be to provide up to $30,000 per fortnight in support to those who were not eligible for unemployment benefit.”
Secondly, we will be using the savings from this program to increase the amount of funding available for the Queensland Disability Insurance Scheme.
“This will also be done through the Queensland Job Opportunities Program.
The ABC’s Ben McLeod said that despite the decision the government still faced criticism from businesses.”
The Queensland Disability Compensation Scheme is a job seeker assistance scheme.”
They’re still saying it’s going to cause hardship for some people.”

The government says unemployment benefit recipients who qualify for unemployment benefits will receive an amount of up to 100 per cent of the amount received.
If a person has worked more than 12 weeks in the past 12 months, they will receive the unemployment benefit at a rate of $100 a week, which will be split equally between them.
If they have been unemployed for less than 12 months they will not receive any benefit.
People who receive unemployment benefit will receive a small monthly benefit of $1.50.
