New Delhi: There are many ways to buy health insurance in India without a doctor’s prescription, but a company called Universal Insurance Agency (UIA) has created an app that gives the user the option to buy from a trusted provider, such as a doctor or hospital.UIA CEO Rahul Khanna told Reuters Health the app is meant to provide a seamless experience for people who are not in the insurance industry.
The app lets users make an appointment with a doctor, an insurance agent, a hospital or a local hospital.
The insurance company will contact the app to confirm the health status of the person before they can buy.
UIA said the app will help consumers avoid being stuck in the “bad old days” when doctors or hospitals were unable to verify the validity of their prescriptions.
“If you are an individual who needs a prescription from a doctor and you have an older brother or sister who also needs a doctor prescription, you could opt to go to the doctor and have them fill out a prescription yourself, for free,” Khanna said.
Khanna said the company is already working on a mobile app for the insurance market that would offer a similar user experience, though no specific launch date has been announced.
